Kptlt. Ebe Schnoor was one of the oldest U-boat commanders of WWII to depart on patrol when he took his boat, the Milk Cow U-460, out from Bordeaux, France on 27 August 1942. He was 47 years old at the time and would take the boat out on 5 patrols for more than 220 days at sea.
Schnoor died on 4 Oct 1943 when the U-460 was sunk 36 days into its 5th patrol by aircraft from the US escort Carrier USS Card, only 2 survived from a crew of 64 (Niestlé, 1998).
