The following is from a former student of his:
"Was my teacher at the “Berufsfachschule Cuxhaven” in 1975; he was in charge of students/apprentices in the mechanical / technical area mostly for mechanics / shipbuilders etc. and teaches mostly mechanics / physics and math. I remember that he, as most of the U-booters I know, never talked much about his time in the navy. He actually never mentioned that he was a KLeu. He only told us more than ones that he was a teacher for the mini subs "seehund" and that more crews died at practicing then in real combat; just to remind us how important it is to listen to your teacher. He died early sometimes in the nineties. As a teacher he was a tough but a straight guy."
