Sigmund Budzyn was conscripted into the Navy and served as ObBtMt on the U-18 from Jan to May 1941. He then was sent to Navigation School at Gdynia before joining the Baubelehrung (construction crew) of U-155, then being built, at Bremen in July 1941. Budsyn served as ObStrm on the successful U-155 under Piening until June 1943 when we has wounded.

Hopitalized until Oct 1943 when he started Watch Officer and U-boat Commander training courses, graduating in Nov 1944. Baubelehrung of type XXIII Elektro boats from Nov 1944 to Jan 1945. Budsyn took command of the Elektro boat U-2352 on 11 Jan 1945 but did not go out on a patrol before the war ended.
