Summary

This feature is a story of revenge set at the end of World War II. Peter O'Toole plays the lone survivor of a British ship attacked by a U-boat off the coast of Venezuela during the last days of the war. Learning that the U-boat is now hiding upriver waiting for the war's end, he plots his revenge, vowing to destroy the U-boat and all its crew at any cost.

Notes

The part of the U-boat was played by the Venezuelan ARV Carite, formerly the USS Tilefish.

The film, beautifully photographed, was shot on location in Venezuela/Orinico.

This film perpetuates the myth of the brutal U-boat man - O'Toole is the only survivor because the rest of the ship's crew is machine gunned in the water by the U-boat captain.

Based on a novel by Max Catto.
