Sunk on 13 January 1943 in the South Atlantic north-west of Fortaleza, Brazil, in position 01.38S, 39.52W, by depth charges from a US Catalina aircraft (VP-83 USN/P-10). 54 dead (all hands lost).

General notes on this boat

15 Sep 1942. U-507 (together with U-156 and U-506 and the Italian submarine Cappellini) took part in the rescue operations after the sinking of Laconia in September 1942 off Africa. About 1500 men were saved by these boats and by French ships from Dakar (which arrived on 16 Sept, four days after the sinking).

13 Jan 1943. A survivor from the sinking of the British steam merchant Baron Dechmont by U-507 on Jan. 3, was lost together with his captors when U-507 was herself sunk on the 13th Jan.
