Attacks on U-589 during this patrol

1 Apr 1942
At 18.40 hours, U-589 fired a spread of four G7a torpedoes at HMS Niger, which was searching for the missing HMS Sulla from PQ-13 off Kola Inlet. The minesweeper evaded the attack because three torpedo tracks were seen by the lookouts in the calm sea and attacked the U-boat twice with five depth charges after following down the tracks, causing no damage.
