Attacks on U-592 during this patrol
29 Jan 1944
The boat was seriously damaged by a very determined attack by B-24 Liberator aircraft (USN VB/100, H.H. Budd). The Liberator was damaged as well but the U-boat dived and escaped. She radioed her encounter in and was hunted down by Walker's famous Support Group 2 using Enigma on January 31. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 488)
