General Events during this patrol
1944
14 Mar 1944. The boat was heading for the Indian Ocean to join the Monsoon wolfpack operating there. This boat got famous for all the wrong reasons when Kptlt. Heinz Eck had survivors of the Greek steamer Peleus machine-gunned in the water to erase all signs of his sinking. Eck and 2 of his crew were executed after the war, the only U-boat commander to be even tried for war crimes.
3 May 1944. On 3 May 1944 the Allies captured intact the Fa330 "Bachstelze" aircraft carried by the U-boat, thus getting the first news of its existence. Impressed by its simplicity and easiness to fold and unfold, they began to test it. Source: Aircraft of the Smithsonian
