Attacks on U-1232 during this patrol

14 Jan 1945
After sinking 3 ships from convoy BX 141 (Boston-Halifax) just off Halifax, Nova Scotia, U-1232 was counterattacked by the escorts. The Canadian frigate HMCS Ettrick rammed the boat, causing extensive damage to the tower, periscopes and radio mast. The boat was then depth charged heavily but managed to slip away. The damage forced curtailment of the patrol and return to base, arriving at Marviken, Norway, on Feb 14. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 649)
