Attacks on U-281 during this patrol

17 Oct 1943
At 19.10 hours, the boat was attacked by a Liberator aircraft near convoy ONS-20. U-281 opened fire with the AA guns and the two dropped depth charges fell short, but strafing wounded the II.WO and two other crewmen before the boat escaped by crash-diving. (Sources: Ritschel)
