22 May 1943. On 22 May,1943 U-305 was attacked two times [1302hrs and 1521hrs] by American Avenger aircraft from USS Bogue. Due to some damages the boat had to return to base.

Attacks on U-305 during this patrol

22 May 1943
An Avenger aircraft from USS Bogue (pilot Stewart E. Doty) attacked the boat in the morning causing damage and forcing the boat to dive and undergo repairs.

When the boat surfaced again at noon another Avenger, also from USS Bogue, (pilot Robert L. Stearns) was waiting for him and dropped four depth charges on the boat causing even more damage. The boat managed to escape and return to port.
