6 Feb 1942. U-431 unsuccessfully attacked a surfaced British submarine with a spread of two torpedoes at 08.17 hours in grid CO 5236. This was probably HMS Thunderbolt, which engaged a U-boat with torpedoes and gunfire north of Tobruk at 34°36N/23°22E.
