HMCS Shawinigan (T/A/Lt.Cdr. C.P. Balfry, RCNR) and HMCS Trail (T/A/Lt.Cdr. G.S. Hall, RCNR) together pick up 17 survivors from the Canadian merchant Donald Stewart that was torpedoed and sunk northeast of Cape Whittle in the Gulf of St.Lawrence in position 50º32'N, 58º46'W by the German submarine U-517.

The German submarine U-1006 was sunk south-west of Faeroes, in position 60º59'N, 04º49'W, by depth charges from the Canadian frigate HMCS Annan (A/Lt.Cdr C.P. Balfry, RCNR).
