The German submarine U-285 was sunk in the North Atlantic south-west of Ireland, in position 50º13'N, 12º48'W, by depth charges from the British frigates HMS Grindall (T/A/Lt.Cdr. D. Turquand-Young, RNVR) and HMS Keats (T/A/Lt.Cdr. N.F. Israel, DSC, RNR).
