With her overhaul completed USS S-37 (Lt. J.R. Reynolds) departs Brisbane for her 5th war patrol. She is ordered to patrol off the Bismarck Archipelago.

USS S-37 (Lt. J.R. Reynolds) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese transport Tenzan Maru (2775 GRT) about 30 nautical miles west-north-west of Rabaul in position 04º00'S, 151º50'E. S-37 is depth charged by the Japanese submarine chaser Ch-30 but she is able to escape undamaged.
