| History | Built as James McDonald for the Admiralty. 1919 sold as steam trawler and renamed Grand Fleet. 1929 sold to Crampin Steam Fishing Co Ltd, Grimsby, renamed Barbara Robertson and registered as GY44. 1938 sold to Denmark, but 1939 acquired by Boston Deep Sea Fishing & Ice Co Ltd, Fleetwood and registered as FD50. 1939 she was requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted to an A/S trawler. | ||
| Notes on loss | At 04.00 hours on 28 Dec, 1939, the HMS Barbara Robertson (Master A. Hall) was shelled and sunk by U-30 about 35 miles northwest of Butt of Lewis. The U-boat stopped at 04.50 hours the Swedish steam merchant Hispania and asked them to pick up the survivors of the armed trawler. | ||
