History
Notes on loss At 20.00 hours on 15 Jun, 1942, the Bennestvet (Master Olaf Nøstdahl) was hit by a torpedo from U-172 and sank within one minute. Eleven Norwegians and one foreigner died, the first engineer was the only surviving officer. The U-boat surfaced, questioned the survivors and gave them two loaves of bread. A few days later the survivors were located by an aircraft, were picked up by a patrol vessel and taken to Cristobal.
