Notes on loss At 05.55 hours on 21 Jan, 1940, HMS Exmouth (H 02) (Capt R.S. Benson, DSO, RN) was hit in the bow by a G7e torpedo from U-22 and sank with all hands within 3 minutes off Tarbett Ness in the Moray Firth. The destroyer was escorting the British motor merchant Cyprian Prince, which had been missed by a G7a torpedo at 05.38 hours.
