Notes on loss At 14.09 hours on 24 Aug, 1942, the unescorted Kujbyshev (Master I.V. Tokovenko) was torpedoed and sunk by U-601 northwest of Dikson. The ship had a harbour tug with ice-bow in tow, which was sunk at 14.42 hours by 20 rounds of gunfire. The xB-Dienst reported the victim as the Soviet steam merchant Valerian Kujbyshev (4629 tons).
