| Notes on loss | At 00.41 hours on 7 Oct, 1942, the unescorted Andalucia Star (Master James Bennett Hall) was hit by three torpedoes from U-107 about 180 miles southwest of Freetown. The U-boat had chased the ship for more than 7 hours before obtaining a favorable attack position. The ship stopped and was hit on port side in the bow by a coup de grâce at 01.08 hours, which caused her to capsize and sink. Three crew members and one passenger were lost. The master, 157 crew members, nine gunners, 79 passengers and five DBS were picked up by HMS Petunia (K 79) (LtCdr J.M. Rayner, RD, RNR) and landed at Freetown on 9 October. | ||
