History Built as Cynthiana, 1922 renamed Hoosac, 1922 renamed London Corporation, 1937 renamed Marionga J. Goulandris, 1938 renamed Benlomond 
Notes on loss At 14.10 hours on 23 Nov, 1942, the unescorted Benlomond (Master John Maul) was torpedoed and sunk by U-172 about 750 miles east of the River Amazon, Brazil. The master, 44 crew members and eight gunners were lost. The sole survivor, the Chinese second mess steward Poom Lim, was rescued after an amazing 133 days in a lifeboat by a Brazilian fishing vessel east of Salinas, Brazil.
