History In 1941 the Belgian steam merchant Prince Leopold a former Ostende to Dover ferry was requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted to the Landing Ship Infantry LSI(S) HMS Prince Leopold. The ship took part in the Operation Archery in December 1941, a commando raid on Vaagso, Norway and in August 1942 in the Operation Jubilee, the ill-fated landings at Dieppe. 
Notes on loss On 29 Jul, 1944, the HMS Prince Leopold was hit by a Gnat from U-621 off the Normandy. The ship was hit on the portside amidships, capsized and sank.
