| Notes on loss | At 16.03 hours on 10 Jan, 1945, the Blackheath (Master John Norman Garrett) in convoy KMS-76 (the convoy was combined with OS-102) was torpedoed and damaged by U-870 west of Gibraltar. She was set aground two miles south of Cape Spartel, Marocco, but broke in tow and was declared a total loss. The master, 41 crew members and nine gunners were picked up by HMS Ballinderry (K 255) (LtCdr E.F. Aikman, RNR) and HMS Kilbernie (Z 01) (Lt C.T. Letts, RNVR) and landed at Gibraltar. | ||
