| Notes on loss | At 03.12 hours on 21 Sep, 1940, the Invershannon (Master William Richardson Forsyth) in convoy HX-72 was torpedoed by U-99 480 miles west of Bloody Foreland. The tanker was sunk by a coup de grâce at 11.42 hours. 16 crew members were lost. The master and 16 crew members were picked up by the British sloop HMS Flamingo (L 18) (Cdr J.H. Huntley) and landed at Londonderry. 15 crew members were picked up by the British armed trawler HMS Fandango (T 107) (Lt G.E. Mabbott) and landed at Belfast on 29 September. | ||
