| Notes on loss | At 02.55 hours on 5 Nov, 1940, the Scottish Maiden (Master John William Albert Gibson) in convoy HX-83 was torpedoed and sunk by U-99 about 225 miles west by south of Bloody Foreland. The U-boat fired its last torpedo at three overlapping ships from a distance of 3600 metres and observed a hit in the stern of a tanker. 16 crew members were lost. The master and 27 crew members were picked up by HMS Beagle (H 30) (LtCdr R.H. Wright, RN) and landed at Liverpool. | ||
