| Notes on loss | At 19.56 hours on 4 Apr, 1941, the Athenic (Master Ernest William Agnes), dispersed from convoy SC-26, was torpedoed by U-76 south-southwest of Reykjavik. The vessel foundered the next day. The master, 37 crew members and two gunners were picked up by the HMS Arbutus (K 86) (Lt A.L. Warren) and landed at Liverpool. This attack attracted the attention of the escort ships from the dispersed convoy. They found U-76 and sank her in the morning of 5 April. | ||
