| Notes on loss | At 23.57 hours on 21 Dec, 1941, the Hellen (Master Brinck Olsen), escorted by the British armed trawler HMS Maida, was hit on the port side by two of three torpedoes fired by U-573 about 4 miles off Cape Negro. The bow broke away and the ship sank shortly after midnight. All crew members were picked up by the armed trawler and landed in Gibraltar on 22 December. | ||
