At 01.45 hours on 24 Feb, 1942, the Empire Hail (Master Robert Jones), dispersed from convoy ON-66, was torpedoed and sunk by U-94 east of St.Johns, Newfoundland. The master, 41 crew members and seven gunners were lost.
