History Completed in November 1941 as Carlantic for Cargill Inc, Albany NY. After completion sold to Argentina and renamed Victoria
Notes on loss At 00.46 hours on 18 Apr, 1942, the unescorted and neutral Victoria was hit by one torpedo from U-201 and missed by a second torpedo at 01.45 hours, but the U-boat was then ordered by the BdU to stop further attacks after its nationality had been recognized. On 21 April, the tanker was towed to New York by USS Owl (AM 2), escorted by USS Nicholson (DD 442) and USS Swanson (DD 443). Taken over by the US War Shipping Administration (WSA), repaired and returned to service as Panamanian Culpepper on 31 July. Converted to a barge in 1961.
