| Notes on loss | At about 17.45 hours on 18 Jan, 1940, the Foxen (Master Ingemund Ling-Vannérus, lost) broke in two after an explosion and sank within 90 seconds about 85 miles from Pentland Sound. On 24 January, one survivor was picked up by the Norwegian steam merchant Leka. Another survivor had been rescued earlier by another Norwegian ship and taken to Bergen. There is no corresponding attack report from a U-boat, but it is likely that Foxen was sunk by U-55 which did not return from her patrol. | ||
