| Notes on loss | On 29 Jun, 1942, the unescorted Everalda was shelled and stopped by U-158 with the last rounds from the deck gun. The ship caught fire but did not sink, so a boarding party went on board and sank the vessel by opening the bottom valves. The Germans captured secret orders, routing instructions and other important documents and took the master and the Spaniard Bernardo Corescardama as prisoners on board. Both prisoners were lost when the U-boat was sunk the next day. | ||
