| History | Completed in March 1925 as steam passenger ship Princess Marguerite for Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd, Montreal. In September 1939, requisitioned by the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT) and used as troop transport. | ||
| Notes on loss | At 14.08 hours on 17 Aug, 1942, the Princess Marguerite (Master Richard Avery Leicester) in a small convoy with air escort was hit by two of four torpedoes fired by U-83 and sank burning northwest of Port Said. Five crew members and 44 troops were lost. The master, 119 crew members and 954 troops were picked up by HMS Hero (H 99) (Lt W. Scott, RN) and HMS Kelvin (F 37) (Cdr M.S. Townsend, OBE, DSC, RN) and landed at Port Said. | ||
