| Notes on loss | At 05.53 hours on 17 Oct, 1940, U-48 fired three torpedoes at three ships in the convoy SC-7 about 160 miles northwest of Rockall and reported two ships sunk and another damaged. In fact, only the Languedoc and Scoresby were hit by one torpedo each and sank. The Scoresby (Master Lawrence Zebedee Weatherill) was the ship of the vice commodore. The master and 38 crew members were picked up by HMS Bluebell (K 80) (LtCdr Robert E. Sherwood) and landed at Gourock on 20 October. | ||
