Notes on event

At 00.37 hours on 9 April 1941 the unescorted Harparthian (Master John Wharton, MBE), dispersed from convoy OG-57, was hit by two torpedoes from U-107 and sank southeast of the Azores. Three crew members and one gunner were lost. The master, 36 crew members and two gunners landed at Hierro, Canary Islands. The Germans misidentified this ship as the British steam merchant Malancha (8124 grt).
