| Notes on loss | At 00.37 hours on 9 Apr, 1941, the Harparthian (Master John Wharton MBE), dispersed from convoy OG-57, was hit by two torpedoes from U-107 and sank southeast of the Azores. Three crew members and one gunner were lost. The master, 36 crew members and two gunners landed at Hierro, Canary Islands. The Germans misidentified this ship as the British steam merchant Malancha (8124 grt). | ||
