Attacks on U-634 during this patrol

18 Apr 1943
At 09.10 hours, the outbound boat was attacked by the Australian Sunderland Mk.III DV969 (10 Sqdn RAAF/E, pilot F/O E.H. Farmer) in the Bay of Biscay. Two 250lb GP bombs were dropped in a first attack, but missed 30 metres astern. U-634 also fought off a second attack (six depth charges) with AA fire before crash-diving, only sustaining minor damage to the conning tower by strafing. The Sunderland had been hit in the nose and the starboard wing with two of 12 crewmen wounded by shell splinters. (Sources: Franks/Zimmerman)
