Her wreck was reported found in 1999 and reported in error to be that of HMS Regent. In 2020, it was examined again by a team led by Fabio Bisciotti.

Dr Bisciotti was interviewed on Italian TV (TELEBLU) on 13th May 2022 (broadcast on the 14th) about the discovery of the wreck.

  9 Jun 194441° 29'N, 16° 20'EThe submarine was towed by a tug and moored in this position to be used by A.S.V.-fitted Allied aircraft as target vessel. She sank some time after. The wreck was first located in 1999 and mistakenly identified as HMS Regent. It was visited again in 2020 by a team led by Fabio Bisciotti.
