| Notes on loss | At 02.18 hours on 10 Jun, 1942, U-81 fired one torpedo at an escort vessel and a tanker overlapping in the convoy AT-49 about 50 miles west of Alexandria and hit the Havre (Master George Christopher Pearson). At 03.30 hours, the U-boat attacked the convoy again with a spread of two torpedoes and two single shots, but two were duds and the remaining torpedoes missed. The master, 17 crew members and two gunners were lost. 27 crew members, two gunners and one signalman were picked up by the British armed trawler HMS Parktown and landed at Mersa Matruh, Egypt. | ||
