History Completed in May 1930

On 7 Aug, 1940, the ship was requsitioned by the Admiralty as ocean boarding vessel (OBV) HMS Maron. On 10 Jan, 1941, she captured the Italian steam merchant Cantal (3178 grt). On 7 Apr, 1942, decommissioned and returned to owner.
Notes on loss

At 15.55 hours on 13 Nov, 1942, U-81 fired two torpedoes at a convoy of four freighters and five escorts returning from the Operation Torch northwest of Oran, Algeria. They heard two detonations after about three minutes and claimed one ship sunk and another damaged. The Maron (Master David Hey) was probably hit by both torpedoes and sank. The master, 67 crew members and 13 gunners were picked up by HMS Marigold (K 87) (Lt J.A.S. Halcrow, RNR) and landed at Gibraltar.
