| History | On 18 June 1940, the Belmoira escaped Vichy French internment when she left Dakar in ballast for Southampton. | ||
| Notes on loss | On 30 Jun, 1940, the Belmoira (Master Morten Mortensen) was torpedoed by U-26, broke in two and sank very quickly. The survivors in the lifeboats set sail heading northeast, were soon offered help by the British steam merchant Sheridan, but as that ship was en route to Brazil they continued in the lifeboats. The Sheridan notified two Spanish trawlers nearby, which picked them up and took them to La Corunna, Spain. | ||
