History

USS Dorado (Lt.Cdr. Earle Caffrey Schneider, USN) was most likely lost on 12 October 1943 in the Carribean in approximate position 12º21'N, 78º50'W due to an attack by an American aircraft from Guantanamo Bay.
It is also possible that she was lost to mines from U-214 on 14 October but this is unlikely.

The submarine was in transit from the New London submarine base to the Panama Canal.
