While on her 2nd war patrol USS Barbero (Lt.Cdr. I.S. Hartman) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese merchant tanker Shimotsu Maru (2854 GRT) in the South China Sea about 250 nautical miles west of Manila in position 14º32'N, 116º53'E. (see map)

18 Nov 1944
USS Barbero (Lt.Cdr. Irvin S. Hartman) departs Mios Woendi resuming her 2nd war patrol.

USS Barbero (Lt.Cdr. Irvin S. Hartman) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese submarine chaser Ch 30 (420 tons) in the South China Sea in position 02º45'N, 110º53'E, and torpedoes and damages the Japanese transport Junpo Maru (4277 GRT) in position 01º10'N, 108º20'E. (see map)

USS Barbero (Lt.Cdr. I.S. Hartman) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese transport Junpo Maru (4277 GRT) about 30 nautical miles west-south-west of Kuching, Borneo in position 00º51'N, 108º08'E. (see map)

27 Dec 1944
While on the return trip to Fremantle, Australia from her 2nd war patrol USS Barbero (Lt.Cdr. I.S. Hartman) is damaged by an aerial bomb in Lombok Strait in position 08º20'S, 115º55'E. Barbero is heavily damaged and returns to Fremantle on starboard shaft only. She is out of action for the remainder of the war.

2 Jan 1945
USS Barbero (Lt.Cdr. I.S. Hartman) ends her 2nd war patrol at Fremantle.

7 Mar 1945
USS Barbero (Lt.Cdr. I.S. Hartman) arrives at Portsmouth on the US east coast for repairs and overhaul.
