10 Apr, 1943
S-56 fires two torpedoes against ' what is identified as ' a merchant of 8000 tons off the Tanafjord. Both torpedoes missed their target.

14 Apr, 1943
S-56 fires four torpedoes against ' what is identified as ' a merchant of 6000 tons off the Kongsfjord. All four torpedoes missed their target. The German merchant Detlef (1809 GRT) reported being missed by 10 meters.

17 May, 1943
S-56 attacks a German convoy and torpedoes and sinks the German tanker Eurostadt (1118 GRT) off the Kongsfjord in position 70º48'N, 29º34'E. The German merchant Wartheland (3676 GRT, former Soviet Arija) is hit by a dud torpedo during the same attack and was lightly damaged. (see map)

17 Jul, 1943
S-56 torpedoes and sinks the German minesweeper M 346 (551 tons) west of the Tanafjord in position 71º07'N, 28º22'E. S-56 misses the German auxiliary minelayer Ostmark in the same attack. (see map)

19 Jul, 1943
S-56 torpedoes and sinks the German auxiliary patrol vessel NKi 09 / Alane (466 GRT, former British ASW trawler HMT Warwickshire) off the Tanafjord near Gamvik.

20 Jan, 1944
S-56 attacks a German convoy off the Tanafjord but fails to hit any ships.

23 Jan, 1944
S-56 tries to attack a German convoy off Nordkyn. S-56 attacked on the surface but was spottted and driven off by gunfire from the German escorts NKi 10 and UJ 1206.

31 Jan, 1944
S-56 torpedoes and sinks the German merchant Heinrich Schulte (5056 GRT) west of the Tanafjord in position 71º08'N, 28º17'E. (see map)

4 Mar, 1944
S-56 attacks a German convoy of the Tanafjord in position 71º04'N, 28º34'E. No hits were obtained and one torpedo failed to leave it's tube. The attack was made at 25 meters depth on sonar. (see map)

15 Jul, 1944
S-56 attacks a German convoy off the Syltefjord in position 70º38'N, 30º36'E. S-56 fires four torpedoes but no hits were obtained. (see map)

24 Sep, 1944
S-56 attacks a German convoy off Nordkyn with four torpedoes. No hits were obtained

26 Sep, 1944
S-56 attacks the German minesweepers M 31 and M 251 off Nordkyn. No hits were obtained and S-56 was damaged during a counter-attack.
