HMRT Flaunt picks up survivors from the American merchant James Eagan Layne that was torpedoed and damaged by the German submarine U-399 12 miles off Plymouth, England in position 50º13'N, 04º05'W.
The James Eagan Layne was towed by the Flaunt and HMS Atlas to Whitesand Bay where it was beached.
