Fate

Renamed S 4 after being transferred to Italy in exchange for transport vessels. Reverted to Germany as U-429 after the Italian surrender.

Sunk 30 March, 1945 near Wilhelmshaven, in position 53.31N, 08.10E, by US bombs.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-429 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
