Summary

This documentary, part of the Great Escapes of WWII series, consists of two segments. The first deals with the role of the French Resistance in helping downed Allied pilots escape to England. The second describes the December, 1944 escape of a group of U-boat officers, led by Kapitän zur See Jürgen Wattenberg, from a prisoner-of-war camp in Arizona. All 25 escapees were eventually recaptured, with Wattenberg being apprehended last of all after more than a month of freedom. This interesting story is presented in much more detail in the book The Faustball Tunnel.
