US Navy re-assesses USS Eagle 56

Posted on: 1 Sep 2001 at 19:10.

On August 30 reports appeared that in June 2001 the US Navy had finally changed its assessment of the loss of the small corvette USS Eagle 56.

The original assessment claimed that the ship had been sunk by a boiler explosion - in stark contrast to what the survivors of the ship reported.

Now it has been corrected - and its sinking been credited to the German U-boat U-853 (as had always been believed here on uboat.net).
