Lorenz Kasch took command of U-333 from Peter-Erich Cremer, who had been very seriously wounded during a battle with HMS Crocus. Kasch was stationed aboard on U-107 as commander on sea training and transferred over to the heavily damaged U-boat to take her home to France.

9 Oct 1942. Help for the heavily damaged U-333 came at a meeting in mid Atlantic. A doctor was transferred from the milch cow boat U-459 to treat U-333's badly wounded commander, Ali Cremer. On the same day Kapitänleutnant Lorenz Kasch also arrived from U-107 to take over command of U-333.
