Patrol description

Patrol in the North Sea off the Shetland and Orkney Islands. The boat participated in the operation Nordmark together with U-14, U-22, U-23, U-57 and U-61. The U-boats were placed off the British bases on the Shetland and Orkney Islands for reconnaissance during an unsuccessful sortie of the German battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, the heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper and three destroyers against the British convoys between Norway and Britain between 18 and 20 February.
