General Events during this patrol

1942

14 Aug 1942. U-205 rescued five Italian airmen from a rubber dinghy in the Mediterranean Sea about 20 miles north-west of Galite Islands, Tunisia at 1820hrs. They were from a Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 torpedo bomber (109° Gruppo, Maggiore Alfredo Zanardi) which was shot down in aerial combat by two FAA fighters while attacking the Pedestal convoy to Malta shortly after noon on 12 August. One crewman was killed and another injured.

15 Aug 1942. U-205 rescued five Italian airmen from a rubber dinghy in the Mediterranean Sea about 40 miles north-north-west of Bone, Algeria at 1700 hrs. They were possibly from a Cant Z.1007 reconnaissance aircraft (51° Gruppo) which was shot down in aerial combat with FAA fighters while shadowing the Pedestal convoy to Malta in the evening on 11 August. All five survivors were badly injured.
