Summary

This documentary, part of the "History Undercover" series, examines the sinking of the Laconia and its tragic aftermath. Using rare archival images and interviews with survivors from both sides, this video describes the circumstances that led both to the "Laconia Incident," in which an Allied bomber attacked Allied survivors and Italian POWs who had taken refuge on the deck of the very U-boat that had sunk their vessel; and to Dönitz's "Laconia Order," which forbade U-boats ever again to attempt to rescue survivors.
